Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

REES publishes the following job categories:

  • Experience Reports
  • Reviews or Theoretical Reflections
  • Interviews
  • Literature Reviews
  • Original Research related to the extension or education in health 
  • Supplements: Creation Dossiers; Annals of Events from Faculdade Ciências Médicas de Minas Gerais

Guidelines

1. The text must comply with the New Orthographic Agreement and follow the following configuration: word-compatible typing, A4 page layout, 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font, size 12, all margins 2.5 cm. The text must be justified;

2. To contain a title in Portuguese and English, abstract (100 to 250 words), Keywords (up to five), body, and references. The title and abstract in English must be translated and revised by accredited specialists;

3. The names of the authors and co-authors must not appear in the body of the manuscript to guarantee anonymity in the process of evaluation. The order of presentation of the authors, limited to 10, must comply with the degree of involvement of each one with the textual production, and the name of the coordinator or extension project participants who have not effectively participated in the writing of the text should not be included;

4. The corresponding author must register in the journal's system and inform the ORCID address in the METADATA; the other authors must be informed to the REES system at the time of submission and must inform the ORCID address in the METADATA;

5. Literal quotations (literal transcription of an excerpt from someone else's work) must be made in the body of the text. Example: (AUTHOR, year, page). Citations with more than three lines should be avoided, however, when necessary, they should be single-spaced, size 11 and 4 cm indented;

6. Illustration: Scanned with bmp, jpg, or tif extension. Photos: up to three, in black and white or color, well contrasted (the copyright of the photos is the sole responsibility of the author of the work and it is up to the authors to be responsible for it);

7. Tables: up to three (do not separate your data with vertical and horizontal lines);

8. All cited authors must appear in the References at the end of the text, these must be prepared in Vancouver format (cited in order of appearance in the text, in Arabic numerals, superscript, without parentheses). The recommended number of references is a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30. At least 60% of the references must be current (publications from the last five years);

9. REES does not charge an administrative fee for its editorial processes.

The submission must be performed electronically and three documents must be submitted: (1) title page; (2) body of the manuscript (without identification of authors); (3) copyright statement.

Title page

The title page should contain:

  • Manuscript category;
  • Title of the work in Portuguese, with up to 15 words (in Capital Letters, bold and centered), title in English (first letter Capitalized, italics, and centered);
  • Full name of the authors, separated by comma (centralized and in order of authorship), name of the affiliation Institutions (name of the institution, city, state, and country - justified text and indicated by an Arabic number superscripted to the last name of each author), data of the corresponding author (name, address, e-mail, and telephone). The corresponding author must be the advising professor;
  • Declaration of the existence or not of Conflict of Interests;
  • Author contributions (As for authorship, authors need to specify, on the title page, what type of individual contribution they made during the preparation of the article, according to the criteria: a. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of study data; b. Elaboration and critical review of the intellectual content of the study; c. Approval of the final version of the study to be published; d. Responsible for all aspects of the study, ensuring the accuracy or completeness of any part of the study).
  • Acknowledgments (if applicable).

Manuscript body

1. The text must comply with the standard of the cultured norm of the English language and follow the following configuration: word-compatible typing, A4 page layout, 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font, size 12, all margins 2.5 cm. The text must be justified;

2. The text must contain a title in Portuguese (in Capital Letters, bold and centered) and English (first Letter Capitalized, italics, and centered).

3. Abstract must be written in a single paragraph, without indentation, with single spacing, containing between 100 and 250 words. The title and abstract in English must be translated and revised by accredited specialists;

4. Keywords must correspond to the theme of the manuscript, with a maximum of five, separated by semicolons. To determine the keywords, the list of Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCs) should be consulted;

5. The names of authors and co-authors should not appear in the body of the text to ensure anonymity in the evaluation process.

6. Literal quotations (literal transcription of an excerpt from someone else's work) must be made in the body of the text. Example: (AUTHOR, year, page). Citations with more than three lines should be avoided, however, when necessary, they should be single-spaced, size 11 and 4 cm indented;

7. Illustration: Scanned with bmp, jpg, or tif (Illustrations that had already been published must be accompanied by authorization from the author). Photos: up to three, in black and white or color, well contrasted (the copyright of the photos is the sole responsibility of the author of the work and it is up to the authors to be responsible for it); The illustration must be cited in the text and inserted as close as possible to the passage in which it refers and its identification must appear at the top, preceded by the designative word (drawing, scheme, flowchart, chart, map, organization chart, plant, chart, portrait, figure, image, among others), followed by its order number in the occurrence of the text. After the illustration, at the bottom, indicate the consulted source (mandatory element, even if it is the author's own production), subtitles, notes, and other necessary information for its understanding (if there is any).

8. Tables: up to three (do not separate your data with vertical and horizontal lines);

9. The recommended number of references is a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30.

10. At least 60% of the references must be current (publications from the last five years). All cited authors must appear in the References at the end of the text.

11. References must be prepared in Vancouver format (cited in order of appearance in the text, in Arabic numerals, superscript, without parentheses), as examples shown:

a) In case of book: André C. Manual de AVC. 2ªed. Rio de Janeiro: Revinter, 2006, 250p.

b) In the case of a book chapter: Verbeeck RMH. Minerals in human enamel and dentin. ln: Driessens FCM, Woltgens JHM, editors. Tooth development and caries. Boca Raton: CRC Press, 1986, p.95-152.

c) in the case of an article in a journal: Baer G, Smith M. The recovery of walking ability and subclassification of stroke. Physiother Res Inter 2001;6(3):135-44.

d) in the case of articles with more than six authors: cite up to the first six followed by the expression “et al.” Broderick JP, Adams Jr, Feinberg W, Feldmann E, Grotta J, Kase C, et al. Guidelines for the management of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Stroke 1999;30:905-15.

12. REES does not charge an administrative fee for its editorial processes.

Categories

Experience Reports: Texts which are accepted present relevant experiences to the enrichment of extension and education practices in and in health, beyond reporting the processes and/or results of programs, projects, actions, events, and service provision. The experience reports must express the contributions, motivations, and theoretical foundations that permeated the work. Yet, the considerations/impressions that the experience brought to the one who lived it. Maximum 15 pages. Sections: Title, Abstract, Introduction, Experience Report; Discussion/Theoretical Reflections; Conclusion; References.

Reviews or Theoretical Reflections: Unpublished texts are accepted for publication, containing reviews or theoretical reflections of published works in the last five years (books, dissertations, thesis, and media) that may contribute to the reflection on university extension and/or education in health. Maximum of five pages. Sections: Title (different from that one which was criticized work); Bibliographic data of the reviewed work; Critical review of the work (containing its potential contributions to the University Extension).

Interviews: Symposium between two or more people who serve to publicize or elucidate acts, ideas, plans, etc. Unpublished interviews are accepted for publication, carried out with names that contribute to the construction of knowledge in university extension and/or education in health. Moreover, interviews with personalities who express the cultural, ethical, aesthetic, and/or political aspects of a population are accepted. It is also requested that the digitized authorization of the interviewee(s) must be sent, agreeing with the publication of the material. Maximum of five pages. Sections: Name(s) of the interviewee(s) and interviewer(s); Presentation of the interview (maximum one page); Interview (transcribed with questions and answers).

Literature reviews: Texts which present literature reviews of the narrative and integrative type are accepted, due to methodological coherence, on relevant topics for the enrichment of extension and education practices in and in health. Maximum of 15 pages. Sections: Title; Abstract; Introduction; Method; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; References.

Original Research related to extension or education in/in health: Texts that present original and unpublished data from research approved by Ethics Committee on Research with Human Beings are accepted, about results of projects, programs, and extension actions or health education. As an example, studies that assess the impact of actions, quantitatively or qualitatively. It is necessary to have a robust and well-designed scientific method. Maximum 15 pages. Sections: Title; Abstract; Introduction; Method; Results; Discussion; Conclusion; References.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS - PUBLICATIONS IN REES SUPPLEMENTS

  • Creation Dossiers (compiled of reflection texts, reports, or free writing, on topics of interest to the magazine, related to the Institutional activities of FCM-MG, in interface with artistic, cultural or political elements, which use iconographic, poetic, literary, musical, audiovisual resources, etc., in their formal presentation, in order to strengthen and give consistency to the proposed discussion. To publish in the Creation Dossier format, consult the FCM-MG Research and Extension sector in advance and register your work. The REES Editors will then contact you.)
  • Annals of Extension and Health Education Events of FCM-MG ( To publish in the format of Annals of Events, previously consult the Research and Extension sector of FCM-MG, register, and log in to your event. Besides, make use of the textual norms to organize the Call for Submission of Abstracts for your event).
