Abstract

Abstract

Parkinsonism is a group of diseases that cause symptoms such as bradykinesia, rigidity, and postural instability, but with different physiopathologies. Among them, Parkinson's disease (PD) is the most common disease among parkinsonism. PD is a debilitating neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor and non-motor deficits that can lead to a reduction in the patient's quality of life. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is essential for proper disease management, mainly aimed at improving the patient's quality of life. To this end, an extension project developed at a private higher education institution holds a selection process every semester with undergraduate students in nursing, medicine, physical therapy, and psychology courses. Initially, in the first meetings, the interns conduct an evaluation with the patients. In the following meetings, vital signs are measured first, then physical exercises are performed, followed by a group discussion and vital sign measurement. With this, it was possible to observe that each patient was attended to integrally, equally, and with quality care. In addition, the students, besides improving the practical learning of each area, were able to develop skills in communication, socialization, proactivity, empathy, resilience, among others. With this, it was possible to conclude that the participation of a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of patients with Parkinson's disease and parkinsonism is indispensable.
