Abstract

Introduction: Academic extension favors the promotion of health by approaching neglected audiences, overcoming oppression through awareness of reality. It is known that women are the majority in terms of exposure to some vulnerabilities, including single parenthood, drug use and lack of fixed housing. Objective: Develop conversation circles about health education actions with postpartum women in vulnerable situations and caregivers at a home institution linked to the city of Belo Horizonte. Experience Report: The meetings were led by nursing, medicine and psychology students, and aimed to reflect and confront the main complaints addressed by women. They had space to expose challenging situations experienced throughout their lives and allowed the students to welcome them, establishing bonds. There was a discussion about the importance of self-care, as many women found themselves lost after exposure to drugs and violence, finding a refuge from reality in the home. The women showed gratitude for the students’ presence in the house. For the students, the extension project provided a new perspective on how to deal with vulnerable female audiences. Final Considerations: The project enabled an exchange of information between students and women, as well as the creation of a space where participants were protagonists, with important discussions to improve women's quality of life. In this way, the importance of health education extensions is reaffirmed, as they contribute to the development of essential skills in the training of health professionals.
