art as a tool for the promotion of emotional health
Keywords:
Health, Education, Art, AdolescenceAbstract
Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes art as a powerful tool for promoting health holistically, integrating physical, emotional, and social aspects. In Brazil, however, public schools face challenges such as school dropout and the neglect of artistic disciplines, exacerbating students’ emotional fragility and weakening their connection with the school environment. Objective: To report the experience of the SuaveMENTE extension project. Experience Report: Fifteen students and two faculty members from the health field conducted ten artistic workshops in two public schools in Minas Gerais during the second semester of 2024. The activities provided adolescents aged 12 to 18 with opportunities for creative expression, emotional bonding, and collective reflection. Final Considerations: The project created a welcoming and expressive space for 514 adolescents, strengthening relationships and promoting emotional health through art. The experience highlighted the positive impact of university extension in the school community, expanding access to artistic practices and fostering participants’ well-being.
